World War II: 1942 - Year of Tumultuous Transition
  Who's Who

Rear-Admiral Frank Fletcher

Rear-Admiral Frank Fletcher, a Medal of Honor winner for actions at Vera Cruz, commanded the Allied fleets at the Battle of the Coral Sea. Although Fletcher was an old schoolcommander and believed in primarily using the large guns of the battleships in combat his actions would forever change how naval warfare was perceived. Radio intercepts were forwarded on to him and he moved his fleet from its base in Australia to intercept the Japanese. He ordered out covering scout planes to search for the Japanese Fleet. Reports kept flooding his bridge of carrier locations and he spent the battle racing around the sea sending his bombers looking at the various locations where erronious reports of carriers where. Because he spent so much time moving around looking for the carriers where they were not he never managed to even see any of the enemy ships on the horizon and only could listen to the reports of his pilots.

Shigeyoshi Inoue

Shigeyoshi Inoue cammanded the Japenese Fleet that was tasked with landing army troops at Port Morsbey. He learned quickly of the pressance of an aircraft carrier and tried to slip through to get to Port Morsbey. However while the americans were lagging around searching for him he also was held up ensuring they were not in his path. The evening after the conflict he, over estimating the forces arrayed against him, decided to return north.
